You wouldn't like me when I'm hungry

To continue with all the craziness going on lately, we went to a wedding for our two friends. Taylor plays in the band with Matt at church and I think it’s really cute how nerdy the two are together. I have since learned that there is a big difference between nerd and geek. Nerds are broadly focused, and geeks are narrowly focused. For example; Taylor is really into gaming or video games so he plays all the games you can think of from Mario to WOW. A geek would play Settlers of Catan, and only SOC. Neither of the two phrases are an insult by the way. I myself am a fashion nerd, or a hipster as the Hubster calls me. Anyway, Matt married Erin and they were so cute!

A selfie is required for all events

I have to say, I was having a really good looks day. What’s a good looks day you say? Well, it’s when my hair corporates, my makeup looks just right, I’m not bloated so a slimming dress doesn’t make me look pregnant, my razor gives a perfect shave, all of that rolled into the excitement of going to a wedding and I was having a good looks day! Given this information, I was feeling good about getting dressed up and fancified. <– I just made that word up. We did have a major issue though with their gift. I searched high and low but the only Target that had the gift we wanted to get them was either a block from the reception, or 20 minutes away. No big deal when you have plenty of time and the ability to wrap said gift at home, but we didn’t have a lot of time and we didn’t have the ability to wrap the gift at home….so we improvised!

Sure, we could have gotten them a gift card. That would have been the easy option. However I am a super sentimental person and I couldn’t bear to think of getting them anything that wasn’t personalized or bought without a specific intention. We decided ahead of time that we wanted to buy them a tent that was on their registry because 1. We love camping. We put a small tent on our registry for our wedding but a family member got us a really cool huge 8 person tent for our wedding, so it was only fitting. 2. We thought it would be a cool idea because we could go camping with them 3. I had a coupon, and a red card so it was a really good deal 4. Since we got money off for the tent, we were able to buy them a cooler as well. All of this including wrapping, a board game, tape, scissors, and a card were purchased in Target, in my heels. I’m sure I was a sight to see with my arms full of camping gear in a dress. People were looking at me like I was walking a pet deer or something in there, one little girl tugged at her dad and said, “Look!”

Once we got to the car, the back door was opened and I wrapped everything up in no time. The drive to the wedding was about two hours away so we listened to music and sang really loudly. I knew my bff Sarah and her hubs were going to be there so I had her save us seats and we got there just in the nick of time. The ceremony was short but very sweet. It was really exciting to see a couple share their very first kiss*. Then the bride and groom were off to take pictures, and so were we! Sarah and I decided since we don’t get dressed up very often we should take a million pictures together. It makes sense right? So without further ado…

The glamour shots:

And then the not so glamorous shots. We could not stop laughing when we saw these later…what in the world?!

Stop; make sure you focus the camera

Where you going Amanda?

BTW, that’s the necklace I wore on my wedding day. It was my “something borrowed” from Taylor’s maternal grandmother. I was shocked when she gave it to me a couple years later. I only wear it to weddings, kind of like a good luck charm…even though I don’t believe in luck 🙂

Take a million pictures Taylor!

This was Taylor’s favorite

We made it to the reception after scoring some gatorade from CVS across the street. I know I know, it’s so bad for you but sometimes you just gotta have red #5 filled gatorade. I may have mentioned this before, but I lurve dancing! I was so excited to get on the dance floor and boogy down. But first, they had a little table set up for everyone to sign a Jenga piece. Cute idea right? They also had a photo booth, which we totally hit up.

We had such a good time, but it was getting late so we had to head home. Not before a picture with the bride and groom!

Congrats to Matt and Erin. Marriage is a burden or a blessing, but only if you let it be one or the other.

Enjoy your life together, and let’s go camping sometime! Hint, hint.

*Since the wedding happened I have talked with many people of different backgrounds about the whole idea of saving a first kiss until marriage. Some have said it’s crazy! Some have said they could never do it, how would you know if you’re attracted to the other person? For me personally, I think it’s very sweet. I didn’t know this type of thing happened before I met Taylor, if I did I might have talked to him about doing the same idea. One say I’ll do a post about saving ourselves but for right now it was great to be there to celebrate such a special couple.

Want to know the whole story? Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6

You guys, I am so excited for this post 🙂 This post is all about June 14th, our 4 year anniversary! Awww…love is in the air! The Hulkster had a surprise planned for the big day all set, and kept the details zipped tight. Even my MIL didn’t tell me, that’s huge! I had no idea where were going, doing, or eating!! It was really exciting. Back in high school, he used to stick me in the car, blindfold me, and take me to a special place just for fun. The craziest one was when he picked me up from home, drove me all around town just to confuse me, then brought me back home for my 19th birthday surprise party. It was awesome. The day started out with being driven to lunch. At Wahoo’s Fish Tacos!

With a perfect gentleman

Tuxedo shirt- classiest cheeseball ever

Wahoo’s is a place my girlfriends and I would frequent when I lived in California. They have excellent food at decent prices, and I always leave stuffed. What I love about them is the freshness of everything! They also have calorie counts avaliable so there is no guessing games! If I’m ever on a lower calorie day- I break for their chicken tortilla soup. It’s light, spicy, and super filling. My mouth is watering thinking about it! The place was hopping with people, given it was lunchtime in Irvine. Irvine is the city that Taylor and I lived in when we got married. We had a tiiiny jr. one bedroom apartment, that might as well have been a castle to us. We didn’t care- we were married! Looking back on it, how did we ever live in such a small place I’ll never know. Ah, newlywed bliss! While we waited for the food, we reenacted a scene from Arrested Development. Anyone else still sad it got canceled?

Glasses on?

Glasses off?

Hair up?

Hair down?

I swear, we were 16 just yesterday!

And then the food came!

T got 2 spicy fish tacos

I got 1 spicy fish taco and 1 cheese enchilada

With nachos to share of course!

His

& Hers

I’ve always heard Chipotle has the best rice- please! Wahoo’s has them beat hands down. I just lurve the salsa they put on top- so so good!

One of our more recent traditions when we go back home now is going through our old stopping grounds in Irvine. Particularly getting ice cream! It was a special occasion after all!

Once again to Thrifty’s Ice Cream

What to choose, what to choose…PAH! Chocolate chip in an eat-it-all cone STAT!

We love to walk around Rite Aid and look at the random crap unique items they have. Fun fact: I used to get my swing dancing shoes from Rite Aid. They had slippery soles that were perfect for those swivel swivels! Hmm…16, or 86? I can’t tell 🙂

We drove around Irvine, looked at our old apartments, and admired the new ones being built. Wow! T went to UCI which I swear really stands for Under Construction Indefinitely! But I’m glad they keep improving the place. Maybe one day we can live there again, such a beautiful family oriented city! After our 3 hour 30 minute tour, we were off to our hotel- The Huntington Beach Hilton. Sigh. I was so surprised and humbled how my husband thoughtfully chose to stay there. It was the place we stayed for our wedding night. Ooo la la! Ahem…He tried to set up a ocean side view, but alas it was just too expensive. I really appreciated how much he tried but I was just fine with the garden view. We got to the desk to check in and guess what?! They upgraded our room to an ocean side view!!! I was floored, but excited to see!

We walked in and realized this room was even better than the first time

For starters, there was a balcony! The breeze was softly blowing in…omgosh so relaxing!

Check out the view!

Hi there!

After watching an episode of Chopped (lol, hey we don’t have cable ok?) we walked over to the beach

Fun fact: a huge dream for us is to live on the beach, the end goal is headed that direction believe me!

Heaven…I’m in Heaven…

Not a care in the world

Can you spot the plane?

We just laid there, soaking in the sun, sand, and sound of the soft waves. I wanted the moment to last forever. But once my stomach starts to rumble…I no longer care about feeeelings lol. So we took a walk on the boardwalk, boardwalk! Heh, sorry. 😉

The weather was really great, I had even slipped on jeans and didn’t get warm at all

We went on the pier and decided it must be Ruby’s for dinner

Ruby’s is an old fashioned diner that has amaaazing burgers. I love their salads and soups, and pretty much everything. Since the restaurant is on the pier and we were approaching sunset, I told the hostess we wanted a window seat. I was willing to wait because I knew it would be worth it.

I was determined to watch every single second of that sunset

And I did

Every second

It was beautiful. We scarfed our food down so fast I forgot to take a picture, but we both got burgers and fries. Delicious. The guy behind us in the next booth was trying to con his way into getting more onion rings, hows that for how good it is? 🙂 We wanted to do a little more exploring so we went back to PCH and decided BJs would be a good place to sit and have some desserts and drinks to celebrate. Little did we know, the NBA finals were on…uh, whoops.

I think it took over an hour to get a table, we didn’t care.

BJs is special to us because we went there for senior prom and our rehearsal dinner.

They have amazing pizzas, beers, and that night I discovered the desserts!

His & Hers

A pazookie for him, which is a big baked chocolate chip cookie they top with a crazy amount of ice cream. And a strawberry beignet for her. I was still recovering from the ones from Downtown Disney, it was everything I ever wanted or hoped for! I devoured that thing like it was going out of style. I skipped the ice cream because why eat plain vanilla when you can eat strawberry? MMM! T enjoyed his as well, but we both didn’t finish!

And bummer, the Heat won. Btw, I hate basketball. But that’s whooole nother post! You’ll understand!

We got back to our hotel and watched Triumph the dog cuss out some people on Conan. Is it just me, or is that hilarious? Maybe it’s because I hardly ever swear? Anyway, here’s to you Hulkster, Hoser, my husband!

4 years down, forever to go!

Happy Mothers’ Day…again!

I just wanted to say that I love my Moms!

ImageOur Wedding Day with all the parents

The top 5 reasons I love my Mom:

1. She takes care of herself. She’s a breast cancer survivor and health nut. She eats very well, exercises every day and really does her best to be a role model for health and wellness

2. She’s loves to entertain. There’s not one Sunday lunch that we missed back home because my mom made a huge meal for our family. This included her, my dad, my brother, my brother in law, sister, my sister’s four daughters, the Hulkster, me, and sometimes she invited my in laws if they were available! It was a lot of people, a lot of food, a lot of fun, and you better believe she made apple pie every week- or my name isn’t {She-Hulk}!

3. She cares for the unwanted. I hate to say it but there are people at my mom’s church that don’t visit their elderly parents as much as my mom does. There was an older lady my mom visited every week in the nursing home, just to bring her a luxury items like a hamburger or walnuts, or take her outside on a walk. Unfortunately that lady has passed, but my mom is always bringing meals over to people, teaching Sunday school, and always diligent about helping people.

4. She’s hilarious. Not like a joke telling funny, she just IS funny. She runs funny, she talks funny, she tells stories that are 5 minutes long that leave us so confused we have to ask as many questions as words to the story, she laughs funny, she has funny toes, but what makes it the most funny is she totally knows it! She laughs along with us because she knows just how funny she actually is. Don’t worry- it’s all in good fun, I think my mom is beautiful and she looks a-ma-zing for her age!

5. She doesn’t brake the rules. She sees things as black and white. She sticks to her guns. Although she struggles with being judgmental at times, she will always do the right thing in any given situation. She was always my advocate with mean girls, bad teachers, sibling fights…ha, not that we ever fought…. ahem

The top 5 reasons I love my Mother in law

1. I consider my MIL as my mom. She helped raise me, she was there for me when she really didn’t even know me, and yet she took me into her home and treated me like her own. She and my Father in law still do to this day and it just makes me feel so special to know they really care about me that much.

2. She loves to shop! AH! My mom hates shopping, my dad loves it. Not that I didn’t want to go with him all the time, but shopping is soooo girly! Anytime I’m able to see my MIL, we go shopping and have a blast! The best part is she really likes it when I try new things and try to be adventurous with colors and shapes- I tend to lean to the boring side of style, but I’m working on it! 🙂

3. She’s SuperMom. I want to be the mom she is and was when I have kids. Incredibly loving, devoted, she always had a clean house with dinner on the table and dessert in the oven. Rockstar!

4. She smells so beautiful. I know that sounds weird but there’s this feeling I get when I’m around her, it’s like comforting/loving/contentment I can’t explain. She always looks beautiful, her hair is always in style, she’s not annoyingly perfect, she’s just so.

5. She’s a rule breaker 🙂 There is NO way on Earth my mom would have ever let me go out on a school night to see the midnight showing of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King with my boyfriend (now Hulkster) ever! But guess who was with us in line and drove us home at 4 in the morning? My awesome mother in law 🙂 Props to my dad for giving us permission…we have yet to tell my mom to this day! He he!

My Moms are amazing! I may not get to see them all the time but that doesn’t mean we still don’t love each other the same. Happy Mothers’ Day to you, and to whomever you call Mom!
